Ode of a 1L- An Original Christmas Carol

To be sung to the tune of "Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas"

It's beginning to look a lot like panic,
with every page I turn,
each law that I dont recall,
driving me up the wall,
until I feel like I am gonna crack...
do...do...do...
It's beginning to look a lot like finals,
Each student a refugee,
taking shelter in the library,
from the a-a-awful next week,
when the exams will crush their sanity....
It's beginning to look a lot like finals
It's beginning to feel a lot like panic...

So I really really like playing video games with my Prince ever since I learned that I could actually win. I really kicked his butt in Dynasty Warriors' battles, so we decided to play games on the same team. We just rented marvel ultimate alliance 2 (he loved playing the first one with my bro, before my bro moved hours and hours away). But of course awesome game playing me, couldn't really keep up:
Prince: Honey, you have to knock over the statue, quick!!!
Me: Ok, I'm trying...
Prince: Sweetie, umm...
Me: What, I'm trying!
Prince: It's just that you're facing the wrong way...you're pushing air...
Me: Oops
*A Minute Later*
Prince: Good job with the statue! Can you help me kill these goons?
Me: Of Course! I am fighting! I'm kicking butt!!!
Prince: Baby, you're battling a picket fence
Me: Nah-uh, I just beat that guy (I point at the screen)
Prince: No, honey, You're Spider Man
Me: Yeah, the red one
Prince: you're pointing at Deadpool (points to a character on the screen standing in a corner by itself near a fence), That's Spider Man
Me: Oh...my bad...

'appy 'alloween!!!

Boo to you!!! The Prince and I had a very not-so-scary halloween, complete with a headless horseman! It was quite cute, but alas, we are so busy that we tire easily and left with the younger children after the fireworks. We also carved our first pumpkin together!!! Our third halloween and yet only our first pumpkin. Apparently neither of us are expert pumpkin carvers. We spent about three hours taking turns working on the beautiful pumpkin, broke two knives, and after only two days our pumpkin became unusuably moldy!!! But the important thing is we had a blast! Who wouldn't have fun jammin' to the monster mash, bakin' halloween cookies, and carving a pumpkin with the knowledge that in a few days you were going to a not-so-scary halloween party!!!

Contracts...

So as you know, I originally went to law school with the hopes of going into aviation law. Buuut, that changed as soon as I realized how difficult it is to work in that field without having military experience (which I don't and probably won't ever have, but that's a blog for another day). Then, I realized that many of the companies I wanted to work for as an aviation attorney were constantly hiring contract attorneys. And so I decided before classes started that I was going to LOVE my contracts class, that is, until I opened The Book. The Book has faaaar to many cases decided way too faaaaar back in time for me to comprehend and trying to decipher the meanings is worse than decoding a message with no key, no previous experience, and no computer... Class was even worse, I understood the first six minutes, got irritated that I didn't really get it, and then started to drift off to thoughts of bouqets and bridesmaids' dresses. Understandably, I wound up on eBay a lot. You can probably imagine how such a thing would quickly get out of hand and after four weeks, I was behind!!! Running to catch up, I've comandeered a 2L's outline, bought a supplement, and started audio recording all of my notes so that I can even listen to contracts in the car. Yet, I still don't feel caught up... Luckily I hadn't been called on in the class, until yesterday. My name was first of the day and to add to the pressure my professor was being audited by another professor that I didn't know. EEEK!! The twenty minutes went by without too much humiliation. I 'misplaced' a few basic terms here and there. Even if it wasn't very eloquent, I got (most) of my points across.
After the ordeal, I felt as though I had done horridly and wanted a retry so very very much!!! I didn't feel my performance was at the level it should have been and was quite disappointed in myself. A day later (today) I receive an email from my contracts professor. As soon as I saw it I knew it contained a reproach about how horrible I had been. Instead, it said, "I wanted to pass on that Professor Smith indicated how impressed he was with your performance in class (as was I). Great job with Ricketts v. Scothorn." I immediately started grinning and giggling in my front row seat for torts class. The Proessor must have thought I was on eBay, for she called on me not ten minutes later! Yay!! My first experience actually impressing someone!!! (even if I still think I could have done much better...) Yay!!!

First six weeks of law school

Well, what an adventure! I will admit that at first I was rather disappointed in law school. The material wasn't challenging, and none of the professors made me cry. I have since realized the law school is difficult because it is an endurance test. Undergrad was a sprint; don't pay attention until the last week or two and then ready, set, go! Law school, however, is a marathon. Go, go, go, go...oh, you're tired? too bad...go, go, go, go... Although I hate to admit it, I have fallen about a week behind. Can't say that it isn't to be expected when in your first month of law school both your car and your fiance's car break down, your two laptops die, so you get an old desktop from your Mum which then breaks down, your phone dies, your fiance's phone dies, the phone you buy to replace your phone dies, your fiance drops a podium on his foot excusing him from work for a little while, your dishwasher ceases to wash the dishes and the dress you bought on ebay to make you feel better about all of this arrives torn (Me: Lady, this dress isn't in good condition like you advertised, it's chopped in half. Seller: Oh, I thought it was supposed to be like that. Me: Ugh, you fashionless fiend!!! I want my money back)...I'm just glad that all this happened at the begining of the semester, so, hopefully, finals will go off without a hitch!!!
On a happy note, Prince Charming and I just went on a weekend trip to Miami to get our engagement pictures done!!! We took 524 pics at Vizcaya and the Beach. The came out so beautifully!!! We stayed with a friend down there and she is actually a budding photographer and she did all our pictures! Even though we have been dating for two years, the Prince and I only have about 20 pictures of us that we both like, so this weekend GREATLY expanded our collection.
While we were down there, I surprised the Prince by taking him to a Dolphins game! He loves his Dolphins (he grew up in Miami) but hasn't been to a game since he was seven. Getting in the parking spot was extremely difficult. All the tailgaters had already been there for two hours when we arrived. They had to move tents and grills a here and there to let us drive down the lane. I never realized that it was physically possible for my Caliber to fit into such a small crevice between two groups of partiers!!! I kept telling the parking attendant that it was impossible but he was convinced I could do it, and he was right.
Once inside, I got about thirty compliments on my dress! I handmade a game day dress using dolphins colors and fabrics and it turned out beautiful and quit chic. It tied up the back because I couldn't figure out how to put a zipper in and from the front it looked like a modernized 1950's sundress. This was especially impressive because the most complicated thing I've sewn before was a pillowcase when I was only 16. And this dress was ccreated entirely without stitches! I stich-witch bonded the entire thing! At one point, after going for more gatorade , I came back up the bleachers and about fifteen people stood up and cheered even though there was nothing going on in the game below. Then they all started yelling, "We looove your dress!! Woot! GO Dolphins!!! Gooo your dress!!! WOoo!!!" Needless to say, even though I can't follow the game very well, I had an awesome time!
The Prince really loved the game because the Dolphins won their first game of the season and kicked butt!!! I think it ended at like 38 to 10. He was sooo cute!!! He was extremely patient with me too. For example: Me: Yeah!! Wooo!!!! Gooo Dolphins!!! Wooo!!! Prince: No, honey, that's bad thing, that was points for the other team Me: Oh, in that case, Booo!!!
But the Dolphins did know we where there, the cheerleaders wore pink and there was a special pink half time show. The announcer claimed that this was honoring Breast Cancer Awareness, but the Prince and I knew it was really to welcome me to the world of football. The Prince even bought me a pink Dolphins penant. I must say, I am quite proud of him for picking an NFL team with such a cute logo!!!

Hello!

My Mother always taught me to never keep a diary. "Darlin', you just never know who is going to read what." Even in Harry Potter, the hero accidently "falls in" to someone else's memories. But I have reached a point where it would be an extreme comfort to have my thoughts someplace else. But what are these thoughts for which I require a pensive? Well...

Today ends my first week at law school. And quite honestly, I'm disappointed. I am surely hoping that it becomes more challenging. That is not to say that it is easy. There is a very high physical toll of adhering to a regimen one is not used to. Actually forcing myself to sit and read after having done nothing but that for the past 5 hours is tiresome. It is the content that is not as challenging as I was led to believe. However, it has only been week 1. I still have the weeks ahead to be completely overwhelmed...hopefully.

I am also just recently engaged!! To the most wonderful man I've ever met. I'm fully convinced he is going to live up to all my girlhood dreams of Prince Charming...or better yet Dirk Pitt. ;)
He asked me to marry him on a lakeshore we frequent. After taking me to a very romantic dinner, we sat on lounge chairs at the water's edge. Watching the lights from the shore twinkle with the stars. After we had sat for some time he turned to me and asked how I had liked dinner. After assuring him that it had been wonderful, he replied, "That's good because I've put a lot of thought into tonight. About how I would get down on one knee (he kneels in the sand in front of me), about how I would show you this ring (he retrieves the exquisite beauty from his poccket), and about how I would ask you to spend the rest of your life with me. " Crying, I was able to say yes before reaching to kiss this perfect man!!!

Although my Mother is right and "you just never know who is going to read what" I need a place to store my thoughts. However, I hope I am intelligent enough not post anything on the web that I would not otherwise be willing to share in the first place. For that reason, I believe even though this is public it is much safer than a diary. So you see, I don't care whether anyone reads this. This blog is for me. It is my log of my adventures for the next year, through what will be one of the most wonderfully turbulent times of my life! And so begins day 1 of the Pink Puddle Jumper Log!!!
